When Life Gets Messy

Errands, appointments, homeschool, and a flipped mattress. A reminder that real life is meaningful even when it isn't put together. Read on for the whole story.

Some days feel like a constant shuffle: running errands, getting kids to appointments, keeping up with activities, homeschooling, and trying to be present for everyone all at once. Add in the unexpected moments, and suddenly it feels like you’re juggling more than you ever planned to carry.
This was one of those days.
I walked into our bedroom to find the mattress flipped off the bed and pieces of foam from the mattress topper scattered everywhere. No warning. No pause button. Just real life happening in the middle of an already full day.
Erik is only four, but he’s strong (and curious) and sometimes his big feelings show up in big ways. Moments like this can feel defeating. You’re already stretched thin, already doing your best, and then there’s one more mess to clean, one more deep breath to take, one more reset you didn’t plan for.
It would be easy to look at a moment like this and feel behind. Or overwhelmed. Or like you’re not doing enough.
But then, within minutes, the room was cleaned up. The mattress back in place. The foam picked up. Not because everything was suddenly easier, but because that’s what life looks like in this season. We pause, we clean up, and we keep going.

Life doesn’t always look put together. And that doesn’t mean it isn’t meaningful. Some of the most important work we do happens in the mess; quietly, unseen, and without applause.
If you’re in a season where things feel chaotic, loud, or overwhelming, you’re not failing. You’re living real life. And you’re doing more than you think.
