Where Did the Time Go?

A city hall job, an at-home daycare experiment, and finding our way back to a normal that works for our homeschool family. Read on for the whole story.

Well. Hello there! Remember me? Yeah, I took time away from this, but now we’re back!

What a whirlwind of a year-plus it has been! A lot of changes took place, but I think we’re getting back to normal, whatever that is…

My husband kicked off his digital marketing business and is working from home now. (Which we love!)

I took on a job at our local City Hall in February of 2023 for about 7 months, but realized I was truly missing our kids at home. They were trying to stay on top of their schoolwork, but things got a bit lax with me being gone all day.

(I found a curriculum called A.C.E., which is a self-paced course. It’s good, but you still need to be present as a parent/supervisor to make sure all work is getting completed. My full review is on our homeschool curriculum page.)

After I left the city job, I had a crazy idea to start an at-home daycare. I thought I could make money AND stay home with my kids. Win-win, right?

Boy was I wrong! I knew littles needed attention, but boy howdy! I had no idea it would be so much!

Once again, my own kids got behind on their work because I was still focusing my attention on the daycare kids during the day, and when the day was done, I did not want to do anything in the evening.

My house was becoming a mess, I slacked on cooking good meals for the family, and I just felt like I wasn’t giving enough attention to my family. Daycare is not for the faint of heart and I give big kudos to those that do daycare!

Now I think we’re up to date. It’s February 2024. No major laundry piles, dishes always kept up, house cleaned up, back to cooking and baking, rocking the homeschool days, planning adventures…yeah. THIS is my normal! OUR normal!

What makes you “tick?” As in, what keeps you going and happy? Your normal!

Life can get crazy and sometimes we have to do things we don’t really want to do. I am so fortunate that I have a husband who understands me and goes along with my crazy ideas. But he’s also there to pull me back from the ledge as well. I’m glad he gets me!

Stick around (again) to see what we’ll be up to next.

P.S. I promise I won’t be absent like that again! :)
