School's Out For the Summer!

End-of-year homeschool reflections, summer expectations for our kids, and why we're switching to The Good and the Beautiful curriculum. Read on for the whole story.

I don’t know about you, but it’s a bittersweet moment when our kids pass from one grade to the next. I ask myself, ‘Did I do enough?’ ‘Did they get what they needed?’
All in all, I think one thing I’ve learned is that I have to have patience with each one of them and strive to make them a better human being. This world is not all it’s cracked up to be, and I feel like we need to train them to be the best human being that God made them to be.
But with that being said, how do you train your children to be the best they can? What morals do you instill in them? I try to make our kids see the best in everything, but sometimes it’s hard.
Summer is the best time to reconnect with your children and really get in tune with them and listen wholeheartedly to their needs. The school year can seem daunting, and we just focus on their studies.
I, too, want my children to succeed in academics, but I also want them to be good citizens who represent the upcoming generation with the morals and values that we expect.
With that being said, what are your summer expectations of your children? I want us to enjoy life, learn a good work ethic, love those around us, and keep making memories that will last a lifetime!
Next Year’s Curriculum
I recently started looking into next year’s school curriculum, and I am sold on The Good and the Beautiful company! If you haven’t tried them, I think you’ll like their stuff!
I already purchased their history unit, and I am loving the multi-level teaching of this! I plan on sharing more of their curriculum in the future, as well as what we’ve already used. Furthermore, I have used Master Books and still plan on using them for future courses as well. (You can read my reviews of both on our homeschool curriculum page.)
Summer Break!
Enough about school. It’s summer break!
We’ve enjoyed our first camping trip recently, despite the bug bites we came home with. Now it’s on to end-of-the-year dance recitals, gardening, and upcoming Boy Scout summer camp!
We’ll have many more adventures to come, but until then, may the road take you to the places less traveled!
