What Is the Utmost Important Thing to You?

Old-fashioned values in a changing world, chasing social media likes, and narrowing down what matters most: faith, family, and friends. Read on for the whole story.

We live in such a crazy time these days that it almost seems unreal.

I know most of our parents said, “life in the 50s was so much simpler.” I might agree with that. Moms stayed home and tended to the house. Dads worked to keep a meal on the table. Kids went to school and learned all the ‘3 R’s’.

So why has so much changed? I think society has put so much pressure upon us as, not just a family, but as an individual, to think beyond the 50s. My question is, why do we have to go beyond the 50s? I understand that the times change and whatnot, but our values shouldn’t.

So, I’m asking you, what is most important to you?

For me, family and values are what I dote on. I want my children to have a strong family background as well as having Christian values and morals. Call me crazy, but I may be old-fashioned.

As I look upon the world today and all the changes going on around us, I really question humanity. Yes, this may strike some, but what have we become? Do we really want to conform to the world? Do we want to go ahead and give the “green light” to our kids and tell them that “that’s okay, it’s normal?”

No. I don’t believe we do. Deep down, we know the difference in right and wrong. We know what God has instilled in our hearts to know the difference.

As I watch the news, I can’t help but cringe at all the evilness that is going on around us. Why don’t we take a stand and do what God would do and try to deliver us from all of this? But no, we want others to like us because we are on the “popular” side of things.

Pornography, “LIKES”, pedophilia, anything that brings you joy in the wrong ways is far from how we should conduct ourselves.

Do you like the dopamine from Facebook “Likes”? Twitter? Instagram? If you answered yes, then maybe you should ask yourself “why?”

If you have a close connection with family and friends, then why do you want to reach out to get more attention from others? Is it a self-esteem issue? Or a status issue? Whatever it may be, just know that those things amount to nothing.

I’ve learned over the years (nearing 40) that what people say or think about you means nothing. If you are proud of yourself or what you’ve overcome, then shout it to the mountains! If you’ve struggled or wished you’d done things differently (don’t we all), then don’t stress. We’ve all been there, and most of us are still trying to figure things out.

My passion in life is my kids, my family, my God, and my friends, and not in that order, per se.

Don’t get your satisfaction from the dopamine of ‘LIKES’ because it feels good. You are better than that! (I come back to this in What Is Love?)

If you start to narrow down what is most important to you, you will find that everything else just falls into place.

Now, I’m not one to speak. I’ve been through my trials of love, loss, and hard times. But I can say that if I didn’t have my faith and priorities in check, I don’t think that I would’ve made it to this point.

So seriously, evaluate yourself and what you think is the utmost important thing to you and focus on that! It might seem like a dark and narrow tunnel, but I promise you that there is a light at the end of it all!

Much Love!

The Mom
